Title: Senior Optical Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Job Description:

As a member of R&D team, to assist in the next generation ultrafast fiber laser products. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Responsible in building and developing ultrafast fiber laser prototype, including both fiber and free space optic assemblies. Perform system level testing and diagnosing.
  2. Understanding Key physical phenomena which influence fiber laser performances both through experimental and theoretical analysis. Collecting and analyzing experimental data.
  3. Working closely with a small engineering team that includes electrical, mechanical and software engineers to identify the root causes of the interdisciplinary problems and generate creative engineering solutions.
  4. Understand system requirements, define components specifications and conduct component qualification test.
  5. Documenting optical design and modification, test methodology, component specifications.
  6. Working closely with the manufacturing team to transfer the prototype R&D design to manufacturing. Train manufacturing personnel; help resolve manufacturing and testing challenges on the production line.

Requirements:

  • MS or higher degree in optics or laser physics (or equivalent).
  • Strong hands-on experience in free-space optical system design. Previous experience with high power laser, Ti: Sapphire oscillator is a strong plus.
  • Good understanding in lasers and nonlinear optics. Previous experience with nonlinear wavelength conversion, optical parametric amplifier is a plus.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and across functional boundaries inside the company.
  • Self-motivated with good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent documentation and computer skills.

Title: Sales Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Job Description:

Calmar is seeking an energetic, motivated sales Engineer to focus on sales and marketing of innovative femtosecond fiber laser products. The customer bases are in the field of academic, research and development as well as OEM, medical, and industrial sectors.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Promote and sell femtosecond fiber laser products such as passively mode-lock fiber lasers, actively-model-locked fiber lasers, chirped pulse amplifiers and Optical Parametric amplifiers.
  2. Confer with customers to assess needs and to determine system requirements.
  3. Develop, present, or respond to proposals for specific customer requirements, including request for proposal responses and application solutions.
  4. Provide technical expertise on products to close on final sale.
  5. Lead the activities of trade shows to present and promote our products and services.
  6. Work with technical and quality department to update or modify product configurations to meet customer needs.
  7. Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers or prospective customers.
  8. Arrange for demonstrations or trial installations of equipment.
  9. Create sales or service contracts for products or services.
  10. Research and identify potential customers for products or services.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in engineering, optics, or physics.
  • Solid knowledge of methods showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience in Lasers, Fiber Optics, and Laser Applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal and team-oriented skills.

Title: Electronic Engineer

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Job Description:

The Electronic Engineer’s responsibilities include, but not limited to, performing Electrical and Firmware design activities, debugging hardware and firmware for products and customers, and also improving quality of current hardware/firmware platform to satisfy laser requirements. The Electronic Engineer will also be maintaining existing electronic designs and coordinating efforts with Mechanical, Optical and other teams.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Develop electronic design solutions that meet company directions, customer requirements and industrial standards.
  2. Solve technical and design problems through utilization of comprehensive root cause analysis techniques.
  3. Ensure engineering schedules, customer needs and quality standards are met in a timely fashion.
  4. Work with other teams to ensure products are delivered and maintained to the highest standards possible.
  5. Participate in design review meetings.
  6. Maintain design documentation, and support internal resources such as manufacturing with testing, assembly and production.
  7. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years electronic design experience.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and good working relationship with customers, vendors, and internal functional teams.

Title: Optical Assembler/Technician

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Job Description:

Work on the manufacturing line building optical assemblies using detailed work instructions. Work with a team of engineers and other professionals to continually improve the manufacturing processes. Performs a variety of routine duties in the areas of optical, mechanical, and functional operations, data collection and maintenance as it relates to fiber laser.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following (training will be provided):

  1. Perform various optical assemblies involving optical fiber, mirrors, lens and etc.
  2. Assemble product from drawings or internal specifications.
  3. Repair or troubleshoot defective product.
  4. Assist manufacturing engineering or R&D in building and testing prototype.
  5. Process product documentation, and perform data analysis as needed.
  6. Inspect or test optical components.
  7. Test product performance.
  8. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • AS or higher.
  • Strong hands-on skill.
  • Able to work with minimal supervising.
  • Able to multi-task and work under a tight production schedule.

Title: Electronic Technician

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Job Description:

This is an Electronic Technician position that will support manufacturing operations for testing, debugging and assembling printed circuit boards. In this role, you will test and debug PCB circuits, and assemble PCB into our instruments in which opto-electronics/mechanical/software/firmware was integrated. You will help to load software/firmware and run prescribed test. You will also perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor, such as assembling mechanical enclosure.

Requirements:

  • Have at least an A.A./A.S. degree with 1+ year's related working experience.
  • Have extensive electronic bench testing experience with PCB boards down to the component level using digital multi-meter and oscilloscope.
  • Able to read a variety of electronic schematics, diagrams and detailed electronic circuit procedure documentation.
  • Very handy in soldering skill, capable of repairing and replacing components at board level.
  • Able to handle ESD sensitive components. Fiber optical experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent team player with exceptional communications skills, documentation capability and work ethic.
